Heavy Civil Project Engineer

Who Are We?

Since 1996 Rummel Construction has been building the Southwest US as one of the premier Heavy Civil General Contractors in Arizona. We're known for our work in mass excavation, big dirt, you might say, but we do it all. We build award-winning golf courses; move millions of cubic yards in residential developments; build innovative road protection structures; create flood control structures and build the foundation of clean energy through our work on wind and solar sites. We've got a fleet of more than 300 pieces of heavy equipment and the work to support it.

Who Are You?

You're someone who enjoys being in the field, watching work get done. You're organized, you're attentive. You pay attention to the little things. In our work, details matter. As a Project Engineer assigned to one or more of our projects you could find yourself tracking quantities one day, ordering materials the next, and scouring plans the day after. Our work takes us all over the Southwest, in markets ranging from residential development to flood control to energy and mining projects. There's always something new to do, a new obstacle to overcome.

What are you going to be doing?

Here's where it gets interesting. You'll be doing a lot of things, you'll be learning the ins and outs of our business, our equipment and our projects. Our Project Engineers are the experts on their projects. They know the details, they set the schedule. They know the subs, they know the equipment. They meet with the owners, the inspectors, the quality guys and gals. They know what's coming the next day, the next three days, the next month. You'll be a liaison in the field, bridging the gap between Superintendent and Project Manager. You'll track quantities of materials needed and used. You'll report on progress, collaborate with field management and do what it takes to get the job done right. We don't just believe in doing the work we win, we believe in providing a superior product to our customers.

In addition to being the project expert, you'll also be working on the following:

  • Creating and maintaining budgets
  • Developing Schedules
  • Processing Change Orders
  • Managing Subcontractors
  • Writing Purchase Agreements and Purchase Orders
  • Track material quantities
  • Source and order materials
  • Communicate with owners and inspectors
  • Collaborate with Rummel Project Managers and Administrative Staff

This position requires the safe operation of a company vehicle and is therefore a safety-sensitive position.

What are your Qualifications?

  • College degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong personal organizational skills
  • Able to manage time appropriately and assign priority to your work duties

We work with the sun. That means during the summer, we start earlier (think 5:30 or 6 AM). During winter we start a little later. Our business is outside, so you should be able to work effectively in all weather conditions (summer heat, winter cold, even the rainy and humid days).

We'll give you the opportunities to put in the work and provide you with the tools to be successful. All that and an excellent benefits package.
